British No. 4 Mk I Bolt Action Rifle by BSA
By A Mystery Man Writer
Description
serial #V38377, 303 British, 25” barrel with a bright excellent bore. The metal surfaces of this 1945-dated rifle retain about 95% arsenal blue with light wear on high edges and contact points, a mottled blue-gray-brown patina on the upper band and lower portion of the nosecap, and some scattered light handling marks; the magazine retains about 95% arsenal black enamel finish with a few spots of flaking, and the bolt body has largely worn to gun metal with scattered pinprick pitting. The two-piece walnut stock is in near excellent condition as perhaps lightly arsenal cleaned with a small filler-repaired ding on the left side of the butt and a few scattered light handling marks, and the stock is marked with British proof behind the triggerguard, the smaller ones not quite distinct enough to read, and is serialized and matching to the rifle immediately behind the nosecap. The electro-pencil receiver markings remain clear and legible, the rifle is import marked, the bolt and magazine are numbered to the rifle, and the socket is stamped “TR” denoting the rifle grouped better than others when tested at the plant but no additional “T” stamp is present, so it was not accepted by Holland and Holland to have a scope fitted. The rifle retains the standard blade front sight and a Mk I “Singer” aperture rear sight, and appears to function well mechanically. An attractive late-war No. 4, suited equally well to a collection as to the range. (14A10813-31) {C&R} (400/600)
